initiatives

Columbia Venture Partners (CVP) is a student-run venture capital initiative in the New York City area, founded in the spring of 2016. We educate the Columbia University student body on angel investing, venture capital, and growth equity by providing students with real-world experience in the venture capital industry.

  • Events: CVP hosts panels, fireside chats, and networking events open to Columbia’s undergraduate student body. At such events, CVP brings in professionals to talk about their career journeys and experiences in venture capital as well as provide insight on market trends and investment philosophies. CVP also organizes an annual pitch-networking event in partnership with Plug & Play, bringing together over 20 Columbia-founded startups and over 40 venture capital investors.

  • CVP Academy: CVP runs a comprehensive weekly educational series covering the basics of venture capital and the finance industry, more broadly. Each lesson includes a lecture and hands-on lab working with financial data. Analysts leave the program with a working understanding of valuation, term sheets, the current startup ecosystem, and industry trends.

  • Internships & Projects: Analysts are connected with internship and scout opportunities at top venture capital firms. Numerous analysts have interned at funds gaining experience in market research, deal sourcing, due diligence, product feedback, and more. CVP Analysts also have the opportunity to work on term-time sourcing, diligence, and market research projects with partner funds.

  • Venture Treks: CVP has hosted treks to Silicon Valley, Puerto Rico, and Mexico City, where CVP board members and analysts engaged with the local startup, venture capital, and angel investor ecosystems. Venture treks have been sponsored by partner funds and organizations.

  • Trailblazers in Tech Conference: Each semester, in partnership with other top venture college organizations, CVP invites corporations to present to students in the Columbia community.

  • Site Visits: CVP hosts visits to venture capital, growth equity, and private equity fund offices in New York City. Site visits present analysts with an opportunity to speak with investors about their experiences, network, and gain insight into the day-to-day operations of funds.

  • Competitions: CVP is invited to compete in undergraduate-level pitch, startup, and venture capital competitions representing Columbia University including the Stripes Growth Equity Competition and Venture Capital Investment Competition.

cvp applications

Columbia Venture Partners has begun recruiting for its 2023-2024 cohort of analysts with applications due on September 16. Every year, CVP recruits 15-20 students who we invite to participate in our Analyst program (“Academy”).

Each recruiting season, we host multiple events to make sure all applicants are informed about our organization and the recruitment process. Analysts and associates submit a written application and are selected for first round interview with board members. Top candidates are invited to a CVP final round.
